From the user - Bob Collins 'pineypl at bellsouth.net':
Running 5.0-RELEASE #7 with custom built kernel.
Install:
No issues, everything was properly detected and used. Did have to compile dual processor support to use both processors. Did not use the SCSI CD for install as I did not have it handy at that time. Put a 5 second SCSI delay into the kernel config file for boot SCSI delay to settle SCSIs.
Other:
This is a home server for file and print. Two users and three machines attach to this server. We use Samba for both file and print. Printer is an old HP DeskJet 500. We use a Linksys router to share the DSL for all machines. The workstations that connect are all Windows 2000 Pro. Longest uptime is 21 days, local power supply is trouble and my batteries in the APC just died! This server is about 4 months old. I built it myself mostly with collected parts from ebay!! I think I've done well, and FreeBSD is doing great. It logs in users and sets up shares and login scripts to Win2K faster than the Windows 2000 Server I was running on it +previous!

VIA microATX motherboard
VIA motherbord with VIA I386 comp. processor (ex Cyrix) on a microATX motherboard at 566Mhz. 256MB SDram 100ns 40GB HD IDE.
From the user:
FreeBSD 5.0 works out of the box. It has to work as a webserver.

ABIT SA6R motherboard
CPU: Pentium III 866 MHz (133MHz FSB); 512MB RAM (max supported); NIC Intel EtherExpress Pro/100(B) Ethernet on PCI; IDE: 4 buses onboard, 2 normal / 2 RAID (HighPoint HPT370 ATA100 controller);
ad0: 58644MB <IC35L060AVV207-0> [119150/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA100
ad3: 39266MB <IC35L040AVER07-0> [79780/16/63] at ata1-slave UDMA100
acd0: CDROM <LG CD-ROM CRD-8522B> at ata1-master PIO4
From the user:
Running FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE. Very good motherboard, absolutely no problem. RAID can be 0 (stripping) or 1 (mirroring) and is recognized right from FreeBSD install CD.

MSI 649D-Pro motherboard
CPU: 2 x PIII 1GHz;
From the user:

ASUS P4BGL-MX motherboard
From the user:
I encountered hangs after detecting pcib1 (ICH2). MB has rl 8100 ethernet chip onboard. Updating BIOS from version 1007 to 1009 resolves hangs; now 4.8 successfully detects rl0 and (ab)uses it up to 7 Mb/s. It seems old BIOS did not properly initialize south bridge...

ABIT KT7 (Via KT133)
CPU: Duron 1300; 512MB RAM; LAN1: RealTek, LAN2: Genius LAN; Graph: ATI Radeon 9000Pro; Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Live 1024; HD: Seagate Barracuda IV 40 GB; CDROM: Teac 540E; CDBURNER: LiteOn LTR-52246S.
From the user:
Running FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE. All works fine, graphics - 1024x768 100Hz.
